Roger Federer comes across his tribute act
It probably sounds a bit stale by now, but Roger Federer is facing a man whose style and mannerisms are remarkably similar to his own. Federer is 34 while Grigor Dimitrov is a decade younger at 24, but in tennis parlance, the Bulgarian is hardly a kid. The similarities stop at Dimitrov being Federer's tennis doppelganger. Federer remains on 17 Grand Slams, Dimitrov on zero. The comparisons between Fedeter and DImitrov will continue a long time after this match, but so will the feeling that essentially Dimitrov is a poorer version of the older man.
Federer holds a 4-0 winning record against the Bulgarian because he is a more potent threat on the forehand and backhand sides. He is a finer player which is no slight on the technically astute Dimitrov. Two weeks after Federer downed Grigor in three sets in Brisbane, this should be worth watching. Simply because Federer is always worth watching. But a Dimitrov win would be akin to an Elvis tribute act toppling the king
