LVG offered to resign, decision will be made Tuesday
Louis van Gaal told Ed Woodward that he would resign on Saturday, but the Manchester United
executive vice-chairman asked the Dutchman to discuss matters with his
family first, according to The Guardian. The Red Devils manager flew
back to the Netherlands on Sunday for his daughter's birthday and
Woodward wanted him to talk to things over with him before he made a
final decision on his Man United future. Van Gaal only agreed to
Woodward's request out of respect and the two sides will meet again on
Tuesday to decide whether the manager will stay on or not.
Paper Round's view - Woodward's insistence
that van Gaal stay on is a bit bizarre. This is reportedly the second
time that van Gaal has tried to quit and yet Woodward has talked him out
of it both times. Even now, with results seriously lagging, he wants to
keep the Dutchman. Maybe he doesn't want to face going 0-for-2 in
managerial hires after David Moyes
didn't pan out, but keeping a manager who doesn't want to be there
isn't a great idea. It's tough to imagine van Gaal managing next season
and, as is, the team isn't going to finish in the top four this season
so what is Woodward hanging onto
