Thursday's papers say Robert Lewandowski has turned down Manchester City, United and Chelsea for Real Madrid, while the Ukrainian press link Arsenal to a Dynamo Kiev winger.
Lewandowski to reject Man United, Man City and Chelsea for Real Madrid
The Telegraph are reporting Bayern Munich
star and Poland international Robert Lewandowski is set to reject
overtures from Premier League powerhouses to try and make his way to
Real Madrid, pending on the status of their transfer ban.
If Madrid are able to successfully delay or overturn any ban,
Lewandowski will head to the Spanish giants in the summer. The report
also states that Lewandowski also has no issue staying on at Bayern for
another year if Madrid are unsuccessful in overturning the ban.
Paper Round's view: Not an issue for Manchester City
who have a lot of scoring options, but this possibly says more about the
current states of United and Chelsea, who probably need the attacking
power most. It would be a big coup for Madrid considering the futures of
Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale and Karim Benzema in the last six months have a cloud of speculation around them.
Arsenal bag Ukrainian star for £23 million
The Daily Star have picked up on reports in Ukrainian papers
that Arsenal have bagged the signature of Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy
Yarmolenko, signing a deal which will see the transfer go through in the
summer. Everton were monitoring the Ukraine international closely, with Kiev officials seen at Goodison Park recently to discuss the move.
Paper Round's view: No idea on the
reliability of the Ukrainian outlet in question, but that's a massive
blow to Everton if so. We are a bit sceptical Wenger would sign a winger
for that money and not a striker, but we'll just have to wait for
Arsenal's response to the story.
Graziano Pelle as Leicester shock target
According to the Sun, Southampton hit man Graziano Pelle is set to face attempts to lure him to Leicester City.
The Foxes are reportedly after someone to help Jamie Vardy carry load
for the last 15 games of the season. The report suggests a £5 million
bid will be made, after Inter Milan beat Ranieri to the punch in securing the services of Sampdoria's number nine Eder.
The Foxes were allegedly alerted to the availability of the Italy
international after reports Southampton are looking to offload him after
signing Charlie Austin from QPR.
Paper Round's view: Considering value for
money and the sort of proven scoring at Premier League level, Pelle is
an ideal target for Leicester. All he has to do is take the load off
Vardy and start mid-week games, or come off the bench and try to make
something happen. This could be the transfer that makes or breaks their
title hopes.
Hughes for Chelsea?
According to the Guardian, Mark Hughes is on the shortlist of
targets for Chelsea as they begin to search for a new manager. The
report details contingency plans if lead candidates such as Diego
Simeone, Massimiliano Allegri or Antonio Conte fall through, suggesting Mark Hughes is in line for the position if it proves too difficult to secure any of the others.
Paper Round's view: A fourth round contingency plan,
but you'd suppose Hughes has learned a lot during his tenure at Stoke.
Considering his only attempt at managing a big budget at Manchester City
ended in disappointment, you'd suggest Chelsea would be pursuing all
available avenues before picking Hughes.
