John Terry was offside but went unpunished when backheeling home in the 98th minute to rescue a 3-3 draw for Chelsea at home to Everton.
Chelsea began the match in 14th place, but were aiming to maintain their unbeaten run under interim manager Guus Hiddink.
They started the match the brightest, but Everton also had chances in
the first half. Everton were unbeaten in four matches, and they showed
their good form with some resilient defending, and ended the half the
stronger of the two sides.
In what transpired to be a hugely dramatic second half, though,
Chelsea quickly fell behind to Terry’s own goal, a deficit doubled by Kevin Mirallas’s exceptional turn and shot. But Diego Costa pulled one back after a defensive mix-up, and two minutes later Cesc Fabregas’s deflected shot levelled the scores.
Ramiro Funes Mori’s brilliant leap at the near post gave Everton
the winner, it seemed, until with eight minutes of injury time gone,
Terry backheeled past Howard
from an offside position, after the allotted seven minutes of injury
time had passed. Terry had risked Chelsea's defeat, but been the man to
rescue the match too.

Barry finds Lukaku on the right wing, he beats his way past four players and finds Barkley. He rolls it out wide for Baines on the overlap. Baines looks for Lukaku in the six-yard box, and it flicks off Terry into the net.
56’ - GOAL! Chelsea 0-2 Everton. Mirallas scores - Barkley drives forward, plays the ball out right for Lennon. He switches play to the left to Baines. He curls in a low cross for Mirallas, who flicks the ball up, away from Mikel, and he then volleys into the far post.
64’ - GOAL! Chelsea 1-2 Everton. Costa scores - Fabregas floats a long ball forward which Jagielka
watches drop over his shoulder. Having waited too long to deal with it,
Costa brushes him aside, the ball goes around Howard, and Costa can tap
into an empty net.
66’ - GOAL! Chelsea 2-2 Everton. Fabregas scores - Oscar
plays the ball to Fabregas, who runs forward, plays a one-two with
Costa, and the ball takes a huge deflection to beat Howard.
90+1’ - GOAL! Chelsea 2-3 Everton. Funes Mori scores - His
corner is headed out by Remy. He flights in a cross to the back post,
and Funes Mori leaps into the air and sidefoots the ball with the
outside of his boot.
90+8’ - GOAL! Chelsea 3-3 Everton. Terry scores - Everton
can't clear the ball. Two headers loop into the box, it comes off
Oscar's head into Terry's path. He's offside, but he backheels past
Howard to equalise.
TALKING POINT
Should John Terry’s goal have stood? It was
obviously offside, so the answer is no. But apart from that, it’s hard
to tell just where the referee got all the added time from at the end of
initial seven minutes. Not that Terry, or Chelsea fans, will care, but
it’s another example of the poor standard of refereeing in the league.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea): Diego Costa appears
to be back in form, and John Terry has rekindled his knack for dramatic
goals, but Fabregas was at the heart of the Chelsea’s success. His
passing kept Everton on the back foot despite their own attacking play,
with Costa providing plenty to aim at behind the Everton defence.
