Home hope Daria Gavrilova aims to build on win over Petra Kvitova
Daria Gavrilova upset Petra Kvitova in the second round, but should not expect an easy passage when she meets Kristina Mladenovic at around 6:30am (UK time). The young Australian Gavrilova is last up on Hisense Arena against the 28th-seeded French woman. She is obviously in form having combined with Nick Krygios to win the Hopman Cup in Perth earlier this month, but this one looks like it could be a close call with Mladenovic the bigger hitter.
Mladenovic also has wins over Garbine Muguruza, Eugenie Bouchard, Simona Halep, Madison Keys and Ekaterina Makaroa over the past year. One suspects the backing of the home fans will swing it Gavrilova's way, but it may take three sets to do it.
